MANAGING YOUR SPACE

Developing and Managing Community Facilities OCN Level 1

Rural Action is contracted by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) to design and deliver a Level 1 accredited training programme ‘Managing your Space’ as a mandatory element of the Rural Halls Refurbishment Scheme.

About

The Rural Halls Refurbishment Scheme (RHRS) is a pilot programme, funded by DAERA, to facilitate rural organisations to deliver capital refurbishment works to rural halls, with the intended aim of keeping community facilities viable and to support existing rural organisations to remain sustainable and identify new volunteers. The scheme targets rural halls which have had limited previous investment, are under-utilised, and restricted in usage.

The training element ‘Managing your Space’ is an integral part of the scheme. It recognises a need to support volunteers, to help build capacity and skills to manage capital projects, to plan and take actions to make organisations and facilities sustainable and to promote good financial practices.

Activities

Delivered at stage one of the application process, the training consists of four modules or units: –

  • The Group in the Community;
  • Delivering your Capital Project;
  • Making and Keeping your Community Facility Sustainable; and
  • Finance Matters

The training also offers support to organisations when submitting their stage two application for capital funding to the Rural Halls Refurbishment Scheme.

Progress to Date

To date 107 organisations have completed the training.

The Programme is currently closed for applications.
